A GREAT BOOK FOR YOUNG ADULTS!

MY HUSBAND’S 4TH GRADERS WILL GET A TREAT READING THIS FROM THEIR LIBRARY THIS SPRING.

PUBLISHER’S EXCERPT:

From renowned Newbery-winning author Jerry Spinelli comes an incredible story about how not fitting in might just lead to an incredible life.

Just like other kids, Zinkoff rides his bike, hopes for snow days, and wants to be like his dad when he grows up. But Zinkoff also raises his hand with all the wrong answers, trips over his own feet, and falls down with laughter over a word like “Jabip.” Other kids have their own word to describe him, but Zinkoff is too busy to hear it. He doesn’t know he’s not like everyone else. And one winter night, Zinkoff’s differences show that any name can someday become “hero.”

With some of his finest writing to date and great wit and humor, Jerry Spinelli creates a story about a boy’s individuality surpassing the need to fit in and the genuine importance of failure. As readers follow Zinkoff from first through sixth grade—making this a perfect classroom read—and watch his character develop, it becomes impossible not to identify with and root for him through failures and triumphs.

 PUBLISHER’S EXCERPT:

FROM A USA TODAY BEST SELLING AUTHOR COMES A STORY RIFE WITH THE INJUSTICES OF THE SOUTH AND RICH WITH THE COMPASSION OF STRANGERS…Book 3 in the Award-Winning Wyattsville Series.

It’s 1946. The war is over. Millions of American soldiers are coming home and Benjamin Church is one of them. After four years of being away he thought things in Alabama would have changed, but they haven’t. Grinder’s Corner is as it’s always been—a hardscrabble burp in the road. It’s not much, but it’s home.

When Benjamin attends a harvest festival in Twin Pines, he catches sight of Delia. Before their first dance ends, he knows for certain she’s the one. They fall madly in love; happily, impatiently, imprudently, in love. It doesn’t matter that her daddy is staunchly opposed to the thought of his daughter marrying a cotton farmer, never mind a poor one.

It’s true Benjamin has little to offer; he’s a sharecropper who will spend his whole life sweating and slaving to do little more than put food on the table. But that’s how things are in Alabama. Benjamin is better off than most; he has a wife, a boy he adores, and a house that doesn’t leak rain. Yes, Benjamin considers himself a lucky man until the fateful night that changes everything.

THE SONG OF THE MOCKINGBIRD

THE SONG OF THE MOCKINGBIRD

HOW CAN JACK MCNAMARA  OVERCOME HIS WRITER’S BLOCK AND HIS LIFE’S PATH THAT PARALLELS HEMINGWAY’S.  HIS FATHER SCORNED HIM FOR WANTING TO WRITE AND TOLD HIM FROM DAY ONE HE WOULD END UP JUST LIKE HEMINGWAY – AS HE SEES HIS LIFE SPIRALING IN THAT DIRECTION, HE SEEKS HELP AND CONFRONTS HIS PAST SO HE CAN FREE HIMSELF AND MOVE ON.  A GOOD STORY THAT WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO READ MORE IN THE SERIES!

PUBLISHER’S NOTE:

Reynolds and Ryan Publishing paid best-selling author, Jack McNamara, more than a million dollars in advanced royalties for three action-adventure novels. Only one problem: Jack cannot write a single word. Devastatingly depressed and hopelessly blocked Jack embarks on a personal journey back to the summer of 1961 when three childhood events created a psychological time-bomb that, thirty-five years later, threatened to destroy his marriage and end his writing career.

Vibrant characters, settings like Charleston, Savannah and Key West and a tightly wound plot make this novel a “must read.” The Song of the Mockingbird is Bill Cronin’s second novel following five-star reviews for his first novel “Dial Tone.”

TEXAS JACK

TEXAS JACK

TEXAS JACK HAS AMAZINGLY EMERGED FROM A SOMEWHAT DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILY WITH AN ALCOHOLIC FATHER TO BECOME A STELLAR FATHER OF 10-YEAR-OLD JAKE.  HE REFLECTS ON HIS IDYLIC LIFE OFTEN AND IS SO THANKFUL FOR ALL HE HAS.  THEN, ONE DAY EVERYTHING CHANGES.

PUBLISHER’S SYNOPSIS:

Unfortunately, these things tend to run in the family, and it looks like Jack will inherit his birthright and join his father in the bottle.
Then Jack meets a girl, and what once seemed inevitable, never materializes.  Samantha fills the little holes in Jack’s life.  Fast-forward twenty years and his life is nearly perfect.

THE LITTLE FRIEND

THE LITTLE FRIEND

THE LITTLE FRIEND WAS A GOOD READ.  THERE ARE LENGTHY DESCRIPTIONS OF HARRIET, THE MAIN CHARACTER, AND HER SURROUNDINGS IN ALEXANDRIA, MISSISSIPPI.  12 YEARS AFTER HER BROTHER’S UNSOLVED MURDER, SHE AND HER BEST FRIEND, HELY, DECIDE TO FIND THE MURDERER THEMSELVES.  THIS HURLS THEM INTO ADVENTURES THEY COULD NEVER IMAGINE.  YOU WILL REALLY ENJOY THE ACTION PACKED ENDING!

PUBLISHER’S SYNOPSIS:

The second novel by Donna Tartt, bestselling author of The Goldfinch (winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize), The Little Friend is a grandly ambitious and utterly riveting novel of childhood, innocence and evil.

The setting is Alexandria, Mississippi, where one Mother’s Day a little boy named Robin Cleve Dufresnes was found hanging from a tree in his parents’ yard. Twelve years later Robin’s murder is still unsolved and his family remains devastated. So it is that Robin’s sister Harriet–unnervingly bright, insufferably determined, and unduly influenced by the fiction of Kipling and Robert Louis Stevenson–sets out to unmask his killer. Aided only by her worshipful friend Hely, Harriet crosses her town’s rigid lines of race and caste and burrows deep into her family’s history of loss. Filled with hairpin turns of plot and “a bustling, ridiculous humanity worthy of Dickens” (The New York Times Book Review), The Little Friend is a work of myriad enchantments by a writer of prodigious talent.

COME MONDAY

COME MONDAY

COME MONDAY IS A GOOD STORY ABOUT THE FALL OF JAKE SULLIVAN AND HOW HE REBUILDS HIS LIFE AND REDEEMS HIMSELF.  GREAT FIRST BOOK OF A SERIES – IT DOES MAKE YOU WANT TO READ MORE.

WHAT THE PUBLISHER SAYS:

Trouble in Margaritaville
Jake Sullivan had everything—his dream job as the chief prosecuting attorney in the Miami Office of the Justice Department, a loving family, and good friends. Many would describe him as a bulldog of a man with a strong moral streak. No one would have predicted what was actually to come.
When Jake Sullivan takes on a high profile case, he naturally anticipates both a moral and a professional victory. But when his drinking and obsession with the horrific nature of the crimes involved cloud his judgement, the case is thrown out of court and a cold-blooded killer goes free.
Shattered and mired in self-pity, Jake withdraws from his family and takes off for Key West where he builds a small practice fighting marine insurance companies. One night, still haunted by his failures, Jake stumbles upon a covert meeting between Attorney General Benjamin Matthews, the man who fired him, and the serial killer he let go free.
What follows is Jake’s fight for redemption and his life as he unravels a Machiavellian plot that leads from Key West to the White House.
This is the first book in the Jake Sullivan Series. Also by Chip Bell: “Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season” and “Havana Daydreamin'”

YEAR OF THE CHICK

YEAR OF THE CHICK

I FOUND THIS BOOK FUNNY PERHAPS BECAUSE I KNOW AN INDIAN WOMAN WHO IS IN AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE.  SHE HAD HER BROTHER WAITING IN A CAR SHOULD SHE WANT TO DITCH THE GUY AT THE AIRPORT WHERE THEY FIRST MET!  SO THE ANTICS IN THIS BOOK ARE PROBABLY NOT TOO FAR-FETCHED.  IT WAS A FUN, QUICK READ THAT REQUIRED LITTLE THOUGHT.  SEE IF ROMI MEETS THE MAN OF HER DREAMS…

HERE IS THE PUBLISHER’S SYNOPSIS:

[Book 1 in the “Year of the Chick” series. There’s a bit of a cliffhanger to end this book, but the sequel addresses any unanswered questions]

An awkward family homecoming at Christmas.

A humiliating public weigh-in, with two judging parents as the audience.

The announcement of a deadline for arranged marriage doom.

And that’s just the first two chapters.

In “Year of the Chick,” Romi Narindra must find love before her parents find her a husband (a seemingly absurd concept that’s the norm in many cultures).

To escape her fate, Romi wades through the waters of secret-dating, where self-consciousness is at an all-time high, and experience at an all-time low. It’s the sort of thing that would turn almost anyone into a man-crazy freak with romance tunnel-vision, and that’s exactly what happens to her. All the while, a lack of inspiration in her corporate job leads Romi to her love of writing, in what quickly becomes a man-quest play-by-play.

From whiskey-breath scum bags to uni-brow creeps and everything in between, Romi and her wingmen come up empty time after time.

And that’s when she meets a fellow writer. On the Internet.

So will it be arranged marriage doom, or an Internet affair that’s not as creepy as “To Catch a Predator”? Time will tell in the “year of the chick,” a twelve-month quest to find love.

Tick-tock.
