TEA CUPS AND TIGER CLAWS

TEA CUPS & TIGER CLAWS

WOW! CAN A MOTHER REALLY PARCEL OUT HER CHILDREN FOR THE PROMISE OF WEALTH?!  THAT IS NOT ACTUALLY THE WORST THING SHE DOES IN THIS STORY!  YOU WILL LOVE TO HATE THIS WOMAN WHO WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO RISE FROM RAGS TO RICHES!

PUBLISHER’S SYNOPSIS:

First comes the miracle and then comes the madness. The miracle is the birth of identical triplets, and the madness is all about money, of course. The year is 1916 and the rare occurrence of identical triplets turns the newborn baby girls into pint-size celebrities. Unfortunately, this small portion of fame soon leads to a much larger portion of greed, and the triplets are split up—parceled out to the highest bidders. Two of the girls go to live in a hilltop mansion. The third girl isn’t so lucky. She ends up with a shady family that lives in an abandoned work camp. That’s how their lives begin: two on top, one on the bottom, and all three in the same small town.

Identical in appearance and with the same blood in their veins, the sisters should have also shared united destinies. Instead, those destinies are thrown to the wind, and the consequences will be extreme. “Tea Cups & Tiger Claws” explores wealth and poverty, jealousy and conceit, and is ultimately a story about deadly ambition and how it will once again throw the sisters together. It’s a journey that spans fifty years, three generations, and the perilous gulf between the rich and the poor. Along the way, you’ll marvel at the opulence of a mansion where presidents are entertained, and you’ll walk cautiously through a shanty town that harbors the forgotten. So get ready for the unexpected, and let “Tea Cups & Tiger Claws” take you down the crooked byways of this captivating family saga.

 PUBLISHER’S REVIEW:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Orphan Train comes a beautifully wrought novel about a daughter’s search for the truth about her mother’s death. Both a Southern literary saga and a psychological thriller, “it will grab readers from the first line” (Chattanooga News-Free Press).

THE GYPSY’S DREAM

THE GYPSY'S DREAM

I AM SO INTO THIS GREEK VILLAGE SERIES!  ANOTHER GREAT READ!  THIS ONE WAS MORE ABOUT STELLA, THE OWNER OF THE OUZERI.  SHE IS A HARD WORKING WOMAN WHO HIRES A BRITISH GIRL FOR THE SUMMER.  STELLA BEGINS TO QUESTION HOW HER LIFE HAS BECOME WHAT IT IS – HER HUSBAND TREATS HER HORRIBLY AND HAS BEGUN STEALING FROM THE TILL.  BUT, WHEN HER HUSBAND STARTS TO BEAT HER, THE VILLAGE WOMEN COME TOGETHER TO SET HIM STRAIGHT.  I DID NOT READ THE SERIES IN ANY ORDER, BUT I DO BELIEVE, SADLY, THAT THIS IS THE LAST…

Publisher Description

Cross with her father, Abby, 17, boards a flight to Greece, but gets hopelessly lost and ends up in the wrong village.

Alone, with very little money, no Greek and no way to contact her friend Jackie, who has lined up a bar job for her, Abby realises she has to stand on her own two feet for the first time…

She meets Stella, who runs the local ouzeri — a rough and ready eatery were farmers gather to drink and take refuge from their domestic lives.

Stella does not need a naive young English girl hanging around, and the ouzeri is not the glamorous bar that Abby had bargained for.

But when events throw them together, the situation brings to the boil tensions that have been brewing for years, the ripples drawing in other people in the village, threatening Abby’s ability to ever leave, culminating in shocking unforeseen events and the uncovering of dark secrets that change peoples’ thinking about themselves and others permanently.

YEAR OF THE CHICK

YEAR OF THE CHICK

I FOUND THIS BOOK FUNNY PERHAPS BECAUSE I KNOW AN INDIAN WOMAN WHO IS IN AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE.  SHE HAD HER BROTHER WAITING IN A CAR SHOULD SHE WANT TO DITCH THE GUY AT THE AIRPORT WHERE THEY FIRST MET!  SO THE ANTICS IN THIS BOOK ARE PROBABLY NOT TOO FAR-FETCHED.  IT WAS A FUN, QUICK READ THAT REQUIRED LITTLE THOUGHT.  SEE IF ROMI MEETS THE MAN OF HER DREAMS…

HERE IS THE PUBLISHER’S SYNOPSIS:

[Book 1 in the “Year of the Chick” series. There’s a bit of a cliffhanger to end this book, but the sequel addresses any unanswered questions]

An awkward family homecoming at Christmas.

A humiliating public weigh-in, with two judging parents as the audience.

The announcement of a deadline for arranged marriage doom.

And that’s just the first two chapters.

In “Year of the Chick,” Romi Narindra must find love before her parents find her a husband (a seemingly absurd concept that’s the norm in many cultures).

To escape her fate, Romi wades through the waters of secret-dating, where self-consciousness is at an all-time high, and experience at an all-time low. It’s the sort of thing that would turn almost anyone into a man-crazy freak with romance tunnel-vision, and that’s exactly what happens to her. All the while, a lack of inspiration in her corporate job leads Romi to her love of writing, in what quickly becomes a man-quest play-by-play.

From whiskey-breath scum bags to uni-brow creeps and everything in between, Romi and her wingmen come up empty time after time.

And that’s when she meets a fellow writer. On the Internet.

So will it be arranged marriage doom, or an Internet affair that’s not as creepy as “To Catch a Predator”? Time will tell in the “year of the chick,” a twelve-month quest to find love.

Tick-tock.

Sara Alexi weaves an entrancing story of the burgeoning relationship that develops between two people from very different backgrounds and cultures, an English woman living in Greece and the Pakistani illegal immigrant who becomes her gardener and house boy. Each comes with their own problems, their own past baggage, and she explores these with sympathy and understanding as well as the many nuances of the differences in cultures as they become more and more dependent on each other.’
