AUGUSTINE FLORIDA.  THE FISH SYMBOL IS PARAMOUNT TO UNDERSTANDING THE REAL TRUTH BEHIND HIS FINDS.

PRAISE:
“This novel is an excellent read. Mixing scientific fact with religious history and the supernatural, it moves readers relentlessly through a suspenseful tapestry of action. Its images are vivid, the characters lively, and their control of the story line makes for a real page turner. I’m anxious to see their next book.”
– Lloyd H. Muller, author of Family Tales and Letters and Old Ghosts.“Science, spirituality and the supernatural collide in this break-out debut thriller, with an action-packed storyline so tightly woven, you won’t be able to catch your breath until the very end. It’s a delicious, twisting journey unlike any I have read.”
– CK Webb, co-author of “Cruelty To Innocents” & “Collecting Innocents”

SPEAKING FROM AMONG THE BONES

THIS WAS A CUTE STORY ABOUT FLAVIA, AN ELEVEN YEAR OLD SLEUTH.  SHE IS FAR MORE OBSERVANT THAN THE LOCAL POLICE AND CAN FIT INTO PLACES THEY CANNOT.  SHE HELPS TO SOLVE THE MURDER OF THE CHURCH ORGANIST, MR. COLLICUTT.  THIS WAS A GOODREADS CHOICE AWARD 2013 BOOK AND IS AVAILABLE AT THE LOCAL LIBRARY.  IT IS ALSO BOOK #5  OF A SERIES OF 6 BY ALAN BRADLEY – ALL THE OTHER STORIES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE AT THE LIBRARY FROM THE SWEETNESS OF THE BOTTOM OF THE PIE TO THE DEAD IN THEIR VAULTED ARCHES!

 HERE IS THE PUBLISHER’S SYNOPSIS:

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

From award-winning author Alan Bradley comes the next cozy British mystery starring intrepid young sleuth Flavia de Luce, hailed by USA Today as “one of the most remarkable creations in recent literature.”

Eleven-year-old amateur detective and ardent chemist Flavia de Luce is used to digging up clues, whether they’re found among the potions in her laboratory or between the pages of her insufferable sisters’ diaries. What she is not accustomed to is digging up bodies. Upon the five-hundredth anniversary of St. Tancred’s death, the English hamlet of Bishop’s Lacey is busily preparing to open its patron saint’s tomb. Nobody is more excited to peek inside the crypt than Flavia, yet what she finds will halt the proceedings dead in their tracks: the body of Mr. Collicutt, the church organist, his face grotesquely and inexplicably masked. Who held a vendetta against Mr. Collicutt, and why would they hide him in such a sacred resting place? The irrepressible Flavia decides to find out. And what she unearths will prove there’s never such thing as an open-and-shut case.

I, MICHAEL BENNETT

I, MICHAEL BENNETT

I HAVEN’T READ PATTERSON/LEDWIDGE IN A WHILE BUT AM FAMILIAR WITH SOME OF THE OTHER MICHAEL BENNETT STORIES.  IT WAS A TYPICAL READ FOR THEM WITH LOTS OF SHOOT-ME-UP BLOOD AND GUTS, DERANGED KILLERS WITH UNDERGROUND AND MOB CONNECTIONS, AND JUST ENOUGH OF MICHAEL, THE FAMILY MAN, TO MAKE YOU REALLY THINK HE’S A GOOD GUY.  THE END CAME VERY ABRUPTLY FOR ME – NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING, BUT LEFT OPEN FOR ANOTHER STORY TO FOLLOW!  CLEVER!

HERE IS THE PUBLISHER’S SYNOPSIS:

Police officers shot

Detective Michael Bennett arrests an infamous Mexican crime lord in a deadly chase that leaves Bennett’s lifelong friend Hughie McDonough dead. From jail, the prisoner vows to rain epic violence down upon New York City-and to get revenge on Michael Bennett.

Judges murdered

To escape the chaos, Bennett takes his ten kids and their beautiful nanny, Mary Catherine, on a much-needed vacation to his family’s cabin near Newburgh, New York. But instead of the calm and happy town he remembers from growing up, they step into a nightmare worse than they could have ever imagined. Newburgh is an inferno of warring gangs, and there’s little the police-or Bennett-can do to keep the children safe.

Target: Michael Bennett

As violence overwhelms the state, Bennett is torn between protecting his hometown and saving New York City. A partner in his investigations, federal prosecutor Tara McLellan, brings him new weapons for the battle-and an attraction that endangers his relationship with Mary Catherine. A no-holds-barred, pedal-to-the-floor, action-packed novel, I, Michael Bennett is James Patterson at his most personal and most thrilling best.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

James Patterson has had more New York Times bestsellers than any other writer, ever, according to Guinness World Records. Since his first novel won the Edgar Award in 1977 James Patterson’s books have sold more than 240 million copies. He is the author of the Alex Cross novels, the most popular detective series of the past twenty-five years, including Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Mr. Patterson also writes the bestselling Women’s Murder Club novels, set in San Francisco, and the top-selling New York detective series of all time, featuring Detective Michael Bennett. He writes full-time and lives in Florida with his family.

THE GOLDFINCH – A GOODREADS CHOICE AWARD BOOK!

THE GOLDFINCH

I waited a long time for this book to become available at the library (and they have 40 copies!) but it was well worth the wait!

The life of Theo Decker was very tumultuous – lots of alcohol and drugsLots of deceit and corruption.  The woman he decides to marry is not the woman he truly loves.  “Life–whatever else it is–is short.  That fate is cruel but maybe not random.  That Nature (meaning Death) always wins but that doesn’t mean we have to bow and grovel to it.  That maybe even if we’re not always so glad to be here, it’s our task to immerse ourselves anyway: wade straight through it, right through the cesspool, while keeping our eyes and hearts open.”  Super well written – you’ll love it!

HERE IS THE PUBLISHER’S SYNOPSIS:

The Goldfinch is a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade, a smartly written literary novel that connects with the heart as well as the mind….Donna Tartt has delivered an extraordinary work of fiction.”—Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review
Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don’t know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his longing for his mother, he clings to the one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.
As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love-and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle.
THE GOLDFINCH is a mesmerizing, tell-all-your-friends triumph, hailed by Stephen King as “a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade, a smartly written literary novel that connects with the heart as well as the mind.” (New York Times Book Review)
